Tchaikovsky Concerto - Finale

Wicks’s few commercial recordings were long the stuff of legends but till recently unavailable on CD.

 A 6-CD set of live recordings from the 1940s to 1990s, from radio archives and Wicks’s private collection. It includes a vast range of music, from electrifying performances of Tchaikovsky and Wieniawski concertos at the Hollywood Bowl to rarely played, haunting sonatas by Bloch and Germaine Tailleferre, as well as an exceptionally rich collection of short pieces. Released in 2015 by Music&Arts.

  In 2008, to commemorate Wicks’s 80th birthday, Simax released a collection of broadcast performances spanning over four decades: Glazunov Concerto, Vaughan Williams “The Lark Ascending”, Brahms G Major Sonata (1st movement), Brustad Solo Suite, Sarasate Malaguena.

The Art of Camilla Wicks, released by Music&Arts in 2005, includes  a famous 1953 Carnegie Hall performance of the Beethoven Concerto with Bruno Walter, and concert broadcasts of movements of the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius concertos and Bloch's “Nigun”.

Wicks's most famous recording, that of the Sibelius Concerto, was released on the Biddulph label in 2005, along with a  fabulous collection of short pieces ranging from Sarasate to Shostakovich, and the Berg-inspired miniature concerto by the Norwegian composer Fartein Valen.
